Literature Text

Keep me still and blind my eyes,
Force a smile, thin disguise.
Frozen now in space and time
On flimsy paper, glossy shine.

Catch me now, just as I am;
Preserve my state as best you can.
Shutter, trigger, lens, crosshair -
The photographic sniper stares.

The face I present to the 'verse
Is just a mask that hides my curse.
But you want to catch this untruth
Intrusive cameras so uncouth.

This image, my identity;
El-cheapo knockup, fake ID.
Keep me out or let me in -
But not to smile is a sin.

Trapped inside an airbrushed life
Easily destroyed with your knife.
Kodak moments every day
An hour later, you will pay.

Take a photo, take my soul
Take my youth, render me old.
Flatten me to paper thin,
Coloured ink and hollow grin.

Happy snap or candid shot,
Memories of good times I forgot.
Falseness, insecurity:
You are flash photography.

If I hear one more "smile!" or "cheese!"
I think I'll scream, so if you please,
Here's the sign, now read it. See?
"Please no flash photography."
Interestingly, eerily and unintentionally, this lyric goes rather well to Placebo's "Every You, Every Me". Go figure.
This is about those false people who try to teach you that life is something it isn't, and who plaster on their fake smiles and tell you everything you want to hear.
The preview image is ~suture71, taking a photo of me taking a photo of him :) And for the record, no. Suture is not Flash Photography. He's just the opposite. Much love for Suture!
